Frequently Asked Questions
Welcome!
We are so glad your search for wedding flowers has landed you here. There is so much to be said about flowers and the many benefits they can bring you, your loved ones, and also the community.    First, a little bit about us. Biofloria is a small, sustainable, woman-owned floral design company located in Northern, VA. We specialize in high-quality personalized wedding & event floral design & decor. The floral design styles that we create most naturally are modern garden styles with influence from blooming branches, a perfect balance between delicate and lush florals, and the dream of frolicking through a Scottish garden. At a very adventurous point in time, we did offer retail design services to our community creating delivery orders, but after many inspiring and beautiful experiences working with wedding clients, we decided to make a full-on commitment to the wedding industry. Yes, strings attached! Heart eyes. All the in-between.  Head over heels for our clients is an understatement. We care deeply about all of our bride's & groom's ( & their family member's) requests and sentimental visions for their big day. Whether it's adhering to a color palette, designing around a favorite genre, coming up with creative solutions to ordinary wedding snafus, or honoring cultural traditions, we know how to create a floral story that's worth highlighting in your photo album!  "So, How Exactly Are You Sustainable?"    I am so glad you asked! There are 3 main ways we commit to sustainability in our floral design practices. 1.) Local & Seasonal Sourcing:   We make sure that before we purchase any flowers that would typically have to be flown in from US, European, African, or South American Farms that we source any and all product that we possibly can from local farms, markets, or small private growers. Seasonality is another contributing factor that we take heavily into consideration when helping you select flora and foliage for your big day. We will never recommend forcing nature's hand and trying to ship in flowers that aren't naturally growing at any given time period. For example - peonies or tulips in December. Local and seasonal flowers are A.L.W.A.Y.S. prettier, sturdier, and happier. 2.) Thoughtful Mechanics:  Being sustainable is important to us. Naturally, the thought of wanting to protect the environment sparks ingenuity. We try our absolute best to push the most sustainable options on all of our clients, without jeopardizing style. Centerpiece types that don't use floral foam (opt for tape grids or greenery armatures instead), ceremonies that use floral netting or "chicken wire" and dried branches or water reservoirs , and avoiding plastic liners are all ways that we design in a fashion that is conducive to a healthier environment. With all that being said - we are not a 100% foam-free studio. There are many design styles that clients seek, that are nearly impossible to create in a foam-free fashion that wouldn't dramatically increase costs for our clients. We do try our best to source all floral foam from trusted manufacturers that we know are making strides to create more sustainable solutions for designers (i.e. OAISIS products).  3.) Repurposing:   One of the most exciting & profound ways we commit to sustainability is through repurposing. Repurposing looks like many things for us & it can look like many things for you too! Repurposing ceremony florals has given us the opportunity to totally rethink the transition from ceremony to reception and offer grander ceremony designs to some of our clients while simultaneously being able to cut down costs for reception or vice versa. Transferring pieces from your aisle to your tables, or the altar to your sweetheart table, or your signage to your bar etc. etc. We will also help you plan to donate your flowers to a local charity, hospital, or assisted living home. If you prefer to let family take flowers home, we can even help create beautiful little hand-tied bouquets at the end of the night to pass off to your guests!   We also donate yearly to local organizations in the art community, small business events, and host free classes or flower pow wows for our elderly locals - all with the help of the leftover blooms from weddings and events. A commitment to sustainability is something you can depend on if you decide to book your wedding with us.
